As an introvert, it can be extremely lonely when going through a heartbreak. Heartbreaks for introverts can cause some serious issues including anxiety, depression, stress.

We’ve all been there, heartbroken. Heartbreaks usually come from loved ones — your significant other, family, or friends. Getting over a heartbreak is easier said than done. Those who’ve been through know exactly what I’m referring to.

Most introverts are highly sensitive and heartbreaks can tear them apart. Overthinking and Isolation can cause mental health issues, as most introverts prefer avoiding human interactions.

I had my first actual heartbreak at the age of 20 when my girlfriend cheated on me. The thoughts of not being enough — even after giving my all — were devastating, to say the least.

Now — at the age of 23 — I’m stable and glad that I had to experience that because it helped me grow and develop myself. I would to share some tips that helped me get over my breakup and maybe you could try some of those things too.

Get Busy

The first month was really bad, I could not stop overthinking and the temptation to stalk my ex or text her was bad. I joined an internship to overcome that. It was summer and I was in my first year of university — as a computer science student — I applied for internships and joined one at my university.

I soon learned that getting busy really helped me stop thinking about bad things. Of course, there were times when I would get lost in my thoughts at the office but it didn’t take long for me completely get devolved in my work and learning new things

Forgive Them

As hard as it may sound, you need to do this at some point. Maybe not immediately after your heartbreak but you should consider forgiving the other person. we’re all humans and humans are prone to making mistakes. Forgiving the one who hurt you will help you get distant from your person and will give you mental peace.

Forgiving the person should be on top of your to-do list as it helps get away from the person who hurt you. People can be horrible and can treat you in a very bad way — still you should forgive them as it will help you move with life, let karma deal with them.

It’s hard to forgive them in the beginning but you should consider doing it sooner rather than later as it will only bring good things to your life.

Write a Journal

Many introverts are shy and often don’t like sharing their life events with others. This is why heartbreaks can tear them apart. But writing something on a piece of paper — digital or physical — can help them share the things with themselves (if that makes sense lol).

Write a journal and document what you’re going through. Write your feelings — whatever you’re going through and keep it private. You could write it in a physical notebook or use apps like Evernote, Google docs, Simplenote, or Notion (my personal favorite) if you want to write digitally. It doesn’t matter which medium you choose, what matters is that you write.

Writing will not only help you vent or some like to call brain vomit — which will help you get thoughts on the paper so you’ll stress less about them — but it also helps you reflect back at your old self and see how much you’ve improved over the time.

You don’t have to write every day, once a week or every other week is also fine but be consistence with it.

Do a hobby

If you have some time, it’s a good idea to finally start something you always wanted to start but never did. When you’re doing something that you love — it will really help your brain forget the bad stuff. You could even try to turn your hobby into a profitable business.

If you just got out of a relationship, you’ll probably have some more time than usual, and what better way to utilize that time for something that you love doing.

Exercise

Exercising and meditating plays a big role in improving mental health. As an introvert, it’s understandable that you wouldn’t want to get out of the house — but don’t worry as you can do most of the basic training in your room. You can find really good, basic, and easy-to-start exercises and practices on YouTube.

Read books or Watch TV Shows

It’s a clique but it does really help so does watching TV Shows. Whether you love comedy, drama, horror, or any genre — there are great books and tv shows available for all. You can find tons of TV shows online on Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO+, or Disney. For books, you can find good book reviews on GoodReads, Amazon, Pinterest, or even Reddit.

Learn a Skill

Learning a skill — event if you don’t really need it at this point — will never go to waste and help you at some point in your life. It could be any skill — something that you always wanted to learn but never had a time or something that could help you start or grow your business. Websites like YouTube and Udemy are your best friends. Nowadays , almost anything can be learned from the internet. YouTube is a free and great resource but if you’re looking for something more professional, look no further than Udemy or Skillshare.

After learning a skill, you could even start freelancing (check out my freelancing guide)

Don’t Give Up

The most important thing to keep in mind is not giving up. Don’t let the feelings drown you and run back to the person who broke your heart. You need to get better and show them what they lost because of their actions. You can become a better version of yourself if you put in the effort — it’ll take some time but anyone can do this.
