Living happily in a world full of extroverts can be quite challenging for introverts but with these quick and easy tips, you can improve your lifestyle and live happily.

Everyone you know is most likely struggling to live a happy life, whether they are an introvert or extroverts. Everyone has their own set of goals that they want to achieve however, at the end of the day, everyone just wants to live a happy life.

Introverts are the happiest when they’re living on their own — they enjoy their own company. As a 23 years old introvert, I do not have much experience in life but I have been through enough things that I’m able to tell you how you can improve your life and keep yourself happy.

If you’re stressing over happiness, you’re doing it wrong!

Shannon L. Alder.

Let’s look at some of the quick tips to keep yourself happy and live a better life as an introvert:

1. Independence

Most people tend to follow the crowd when it comes to practical life but introverts are quite the opposite, they like to be independent and want to live life their own way. Introverts are happiest when they are independent and have the freedom to explore and then do when they want to. Instead of following the trends, introverts prefer doing their own thing and not what’s popular.

Let others be aware of the boundaries, do not get them involved in your life if you do not want them. To improve your life, it’s a good idea to detach yourself from any dependencies, whether it’s people or things, independence will make you happy as an introvert.

2. Stop Being a Perfectionist

Introverts tend to be more perfectionists than extroverts, which is not a very good trait. For introverts, being a perfectionist means not even starting something because of the fear of not doing it perfectly. Introverts are quite sensitive and the fear of failure can lead to bad life decisions. Because of this fear of failure, introverts tend to procrastinate a lot.

As an introvert, whenever I’m scared of trying something new or moving toward a territory that is unknown to me, I always think of this quote by Ken Poirot

Take Action: Success is not guaranteed but inaction will guaranty failure.

Ken Poirot

Whenever I’m lazy or scared to try something new — something that could be beneficial to me — I read this quote out loud. 8/10 times, I do that thing. This blog is a live example of that, I’ve always wanted to write but I was scared that no one would be interested in reading but here you are reading it, though I do hope it’s helpful to you 🙂

So get up and do that thing that you’ve always wanted to do!

3. Overthinking

Introverts are mostly tangled in their own thoughts, which in most cases, is awful. Introverts are super sensitive in life matters, which in return makes them overthink a lot. As an introvert myself, I used to overthink about literally everything possible. From a compliment by a stranger to a strange reaction of a closed one. If my friend is not as cheerful as he/she usually is, I would take that on me and tend to think of all the previous interactions I had with them — in most cases, it has nothing to do with me.

I think and think and think, I have thought myself out of happiness one million times, but never once into it.

Jonathan Safran Foer

Overthinking can lead to procrastination as well. Often I wanted to do something but instead of getting started with it, I choose to overthink and end up doing that thing too many times in my head that it’s either not interesting anymore or the fear of failure takes over me.

In a world full of extroverts, most don’t have enough time to think about anyone but themselves.

So do not overthink small things, especially about others. You matter more than anyone else in your life.

4. Make Time For Yourself

Introverts need time alone to recharge and get their energy back. As an introvert, you need to manage time and set your priorities so you have that time. In my experience, many extroverts do not understand this and there are times when I have to make lame excuses just to escape from people. To tackle this and get some time alone, you can:

Schedule Reading and Responding to Texts

Turn off your phone (or just the internet) and only reply to others on a fixed schedule. You could tell your friends and family in advance that you will be checking your phone at X pm/am and if there’s an emergency, please call on xxx-xxx-xxx.

It will help you get away from unnecessary conversations that may disturb your free time. When you’re checking your messages once or twice a day on a fixed schedule, it will make others organize and structure their messages well, as they’ll know they only got one shot at it.

Most of the time, there are no emergencies and if people do call you, you could start the conversation by telling them that you’re in the middle of something so if it’s something important, they better get to the point quickly. I learned this strategy from The 4-Hour Work Week by Tim Ferris.

Make a to-do List and Schedule THINGS

Doing this will help you visualize and manage your time. Make a list of all the things you must get done and schedule them in a way that you get yourself enough time to recharge. Everyone needs different times to recharge, I personally need somewhere between 1 to 2 hours of alone time with YouTube or Spotify to get my energy back.

5. Remote Work Is Perfect For Introverts

Most introverts want to avoid human interactions at all costs, remote work is perfect for such individuals. In early 2020 we saw how almost everyone went from office jobs to working from home. This proves that most jobs can be done as efficiently, if not better when done remotely. You could ask your employer to allow you to work remotely at least once every other week, in most cases they will allow it, especially if all your work can be accomplished on a laptop/computer. You could ask for more days once your employer has more confidence in you and knows that you get your work done regardless of working from the office or home.

Alternatively, you could also look for remote jobs or get into freelancing but be aware that it can be quite competitive. Regardless, here are some websites where you can find freelance clients or find remote jobs:

6. Have an Extrovert Friend

Having an extrovert friend will help you experience things that you would not have done alone. Extroverts tend to enjoy things differently compared to introverts, hence they usually have different hobbies. With the help of your extrovert friend, you could experience and enjoy things that they like.

Extrovert friends will not help you enjoy life but they could also help in the situations that you don’t feel comfortable with.
